I am very pleased to invite you to the 23^rd International Congress of Chemical and Process Engineering CHISA 2018 jointly held with Conference PRES in Prague from 25 to 29 August 2018. As all the CHISA Congresses in the past, also this one will cover a range of important topics and, together with the PRES conference, will offer many real interdisciplinary links.

 The series of International Congresses CHISA taking place in the centre of Europe started in 1962 in Brno, Czechoslovakia then continued in Mariánské Lázně, and since 1972 the Congresses have been held in Prague. However, it is worth mentioning that the logo was used for the national event as early as 1953. The term CHISA originates from the Czech acronym for “Chemical Engineering, Chemical Equipment Design and Automation” and later became a “trade mark” for large meetings which had emphasised especially East-West-European and later pan-European contacts. Nevertheless, the stepwise development during the last two decades has transformed the one-time European Congresses into an event of world importance.

The logistics of the program, which includes both the standard sessions and specialized symposia, should enable the interested people to listen also to the presentations, which are close to their fields of research however outside their everyday horizons.

I am very pleased to invite you to the 21^st Conference on Process Integration, Modelling and Optimisation for Energy Saving and Pollution Reduction PRES 2018, which will be held jointly with CHISA 2018 in Prague from 25 to 29 August 2018. Together, we will cover a range of important topics with focus on addressing global challenges in energy, water, pollution, and sustainability using classical chemical engineering approaches, enhanced by many interdisciplinary collaborations.

The PRES conference series started in Prague in 1998, and since then they have been held in Budapest, Hungary (1999), Prague (2000), Florence, Italy (2001), Prague (2002), Hamilton, Canada (2003), Prague (2004), Taormina, Italy (2005), Prague (2006), Ischia, Italy (2007), Prague (2008), Rome, Italy (2009), Prague (2010), Florence, Italy (2011), Prague (2012), Rhodes, Greece (2013), Prague (2014), Kuching, Malaysia (2015), Prague (2016), Tianjin, China (2017) and, in 2018, it returns to Prague once again.

The age of 21 years is the most enjoyable, however also challenging for human beings. For a conference, it represents proof of its sustained impact and contribution to the scientific and industrial communities as well as a commitment for future development. It is also time for new generations to join and step by step to take up their role for the many years to come.

After an excellent and most successful organisation of PRES’17 in China, you are cordially invited to meet colleagues and friends, exchange knowledge and ideas, and enjoy the beautiful city, Prague!

We would like to announce the EFCE Best Poster Award that will be provided by the EFCE Working Party „Multiphase Fluid Flow“ to the best poster of the session „Fluid Flow and Multiphase Systems“. The prize is endowed with an official certificate and 300 Euro. The selection will be done by an independent jury of experts during the poster exhibition concerning the following criteria: (a) Relevance in the field of Fluid Flow and Multiphase Systems; (b) High scientific level; (c) Novelty, creativity included; (d) Potential impact to industry or society; (e) Clear and understandable presentation.

The special session "Multiphase Reactors" will be organized by EFCE Working Party Multiphase Fluid Flow. The interested participants should submit a contribution to CHISA Congress Topic No. 6: "Fluid flow and multiphase systems", and subsequently inform M. Ruzicka by email (ruzicka@icpf.cas.cz) about intention to participate.
